FLORENCE, Arizona — Authorities say a former Maricopa County Sheriff's deputy is in custody for allegedly having sex with a 14-year-old girl.

Pinal County Sheriff's officials say 44-year-old Michael Valles has been booked into jail on suspicion of sexual conduct with a minor and luring a minor for sexual exploitation.

It wasn't immediately clear Monday if Valles has a lawyer yet.

Investigators say Valles allegedly had sex with the girl last year in both Pinal and Maricopa counties.

Pinal County Sheriff's detectives served a search warrant at Valles' home in Queen Creek last Wednesday before he was arrested.

They say Valles left the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office in 2011 after he was investigated for alleged sex crimes against a minor, but no criminal charges were filed.
