LITTLE ROCK, Arkansas — The University of Arkansas at Little Rock has hired Little Rock native Chris Curry as the new head baseball coach.

Curry spent seven years as a catcher in professional baseball and most recently was an assistant and the pitching coach at Northwestern State in Louisiana. He has also worked on the staffs at Arkansas, Arkansas Tech, Hendrix and Meridian Community College.

Curry played high school baseball at Conway High School and collegiately at Meridian and at Mississippi State before being drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the ninth round of the 1999 Major League Baseball draft.

He succeeds Scott Norwood at UALR after Norwood resigned on June 9.
