ANCHORAGE, Alaska — A 33-year-old man stabbed to death in a home in east Anchorage was an Army soldier originally from Italy.

Anchorage police responding to a 911 call found Spc. Paulo Grassi dead early Sunday morning in the Penland Parkway home.

The Army in an announcement says Grassi was born in Varese (vah-RAYS'), Italy.

He joined the Army in April 2012 in Twin Falls, Idaho, and was trained as an infantryman.

Police say 40-year-old Alvin Rodriguez-Moya broke into the home, stabbed Grassi and 56-year-old Juana Garcia-Jimenez, his former girlfriend, and fled.

Garcia-Jimenez was rushed to an Anchorage hospital in critical condition and was reported Monday as stable.

Rodriguez-Moya is charged with first-degree murder, second-degree murder, attempted murder, felony assault and burglary.

He's being held on $1 million bail at the Anchorage jail.
