ALLENTOWN, Pennsylvania — A man has been convicted of voluntary manslaughter in a shooting death outside an eastern Pennsylvania strip club 2½ years ago.

Jurors deliberated for nearly 14 hours before convicting 23-year-old Ulysses Rodriguez on Friday in the January 2013 slaying of 21-year-old Tyree Wimberly of Allentown.

The panel rejected the defendant's contention that he acted in self-defense but also disagreed with prosecutors' arguments that the killing was intentional and premeditated.

Chief Deputy District Attorney Jay Jenkins said Rodriguez shot the victim outside Scoobies Gentleman's Club because he felt disrespected when Wimberly refused to buy marijuana.

Rodriguez took the stand and testified that he fired two warning shots but Wimberly kept coming toward him in a menacing manner.

Rodriguez, who goes by the street name "Slime," is scheduled for sentencing Sept. 25.
