NEW YORK — Police are trying to identify a woman whose dead body was found floating off Staten Island.
The woman was seen floating face down in the waters off the South Beach area Sunday afternoon.
She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police tell the Staten Island Advance (http://bit.ly/1n1lsxw ) that the woman had likely been in the water for about two hours.
Beachgoers watched as an NYPD boat brought the body to shore.
A spokesman for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority said the agency received no reports of anyone jumping off the nearby Verrazano-Narrows Bridge on Saturday or Sunday.
