HUNTSVILLE, Alabama — Some roads are still slippery in north Alabama from the winter storm that dumped more than a foot of snow in places.
School systems throughout the area delayed opening Friday to allow ice and snow to melt, and a few aren't reopening until Monday.
Redstone Arsenal is delaying opening by two hours because of lingering slick spots on roads around Huntsville, and slippery roads are being reported as far south as metro Birmingham.
The main problem is secondary roads. Melting snow left puddles that froze overnight as temperatures fell below freezing.
High temperatures Friday are supposed to be in the 30s in the Tennessee Valley with sunny skies, so some snow could linger into the weekend. Highs in central Alabama are predicted in the upper 30s and low 40s.
