OKLAHOMA CITY — Oklahoma City police say a man who was shot and killed on the city's southwest side was trying to steal a pickup truck and was shot by the truck's owner.

Police say 25-year-old Jacob Jarvis of Midwest City was killed Thursday afternoon when he was shot by 32-year-old Jose Reyes.

Sgt. Gary Knight says officers investigating the shooting found Jarvis dead inside the pickup truck. Knight says investigators determined that Jarvis was stealing the truck when Reyes confronted him and stepped into the roadway to demand that Jarvis stop.

Knight says Jarvis apparently accelerated toward Reyes and Reyes fired into the truck, killing Jarvis.

The district attorney's office will determine whether the shooting was justified or if charges will be filed.
