WEST BABYLON, New York — Police say an 84-year-old driver sideswiped a highway patrol car and struck another car before her vehicle overturned on a Long Island highway.

The crash occurred around 10 p.m. Monday in West Babylon near Exit 39 of Sunrise Highway.

Suffolk County police say an officer was dealing with an earlier two-car accident when the woman's Buick knocked off the mirror of his patrol car.

According to Newsday (http://nwsdy.li/1HHId8P ), the Buick then struck a Hyundai that had been involved in the earlier crash.

Police say the Buick then overturned and landed in the middle lane of Sunrise Highway. The driver was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries. She was issued two summonses.

No other injuries were reported.

Two lanes of the highway were shut down for about one hour.
