Number of Las Vegas visitors, airport traffic up last month thanks to July Fourth holiday

LAS VEGAS — Tourism and airport officials say July saw an increase in the number of visitors, thanks to an extra weekend day from the July Fourth holiday.

The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority reported Friday the number of visitors in July increased to 3.7 million people, up 5.3 percent compared to last year.

The percent of rooms occupied across the city was up, although convention attendance and the county's gaming revenue was down.

McCarran International Airport also released statistics that show about 4 million people flew into and out of Las Vegas in July, an 8.8 percent increase.

Domestic and international flights increased, by 9 percent and 6 percent, respectively.

Of the five busiest carriers at the airport, Spirit Airlines saw the biggest jump with 34.9 percent more passengers.
