RICHMOND, Virginia — The Richmond Folk Festival has announced the first list of performers for the annual festival, slated for October.
The Richmond Times-Dispatch (http://bit.ly/1cMS4fH) reported Tuesday the festival is likely to draw more than 100,000 people to see several acts fill seven stages on Richmond's waterfront Oct. 9-11.
The first list of performers includes blues star Shemekia Copeland, Irish trio The Alt, The Bruce Daigrepont Cajun Band, gospel ensemble The Campbell Brothers, bluegrass band Danny Paisley & the Southern Grass, New Orleans band Deacon John's Jump Blues, Afro-Columbian ensemble Grupo RebolÃº and Afro-Persian music and dance group Ensemble Shanbehzade.
Officials say more than 30 artists will be announced by the time of the festival. Last year, more than 125,000 people turned out for the event.
