UNIONTOWN, Pennsylvania — A southwestern Pennsylvania man has been sentenced to 20 to 40 years in prison for fatally punching his 20-month-old daughter in the stomach, injuries he once claimed resulted from tickling the girl too roughly.
The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review (http://bit.ly/1rev21s ) reported that 31-year-old Domer Burkholder said nothing before he was sentenced Friday by a Fayette County judge.
The North Union Township man acknowledged punching the girl at his guilty plea on Wednesday, having previously told police, "I might have pushed a little too hard (in) the belly area with my fingers, like tickling."
Investigators determined little Caylee Jo Burkholder died from internal injuries, including a liver laceration, damaged intestines and bleeding on Nov. 15, a day after she was punched.
The girl's mother, 28-year-old Jessica Burkholder, is charged with child endangerment for not seeking immediate medical care.
