EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP, New Jersey — Nearly 300 police and transportation officials participated in a hurricane evacuation drill in New Jersey.

The object of Thursday's exercise was to test response time and communications in the event that officials needed to evacuate the Jersey shore.

No roads were closed. But authorities practiced what they would have to do to reverse the flow of traffic along highways to move traffic away from the coast.

Motorists saw crews deploying cones, barrels and message boards.
