OKLAHOMA CITY — A Jones woman has been sentenced to nearly eight years in prison for embezzling more than $1 million from the company where she was office manager and accounts payable clerk.
Julie Ann Smith was sentenced Thursday to 94 months in prison in U.S. District Court in Oklahoma City after being convicted last October on 36 counts that included bank fraud, mail fraud, tax fraud, identity theft and forged securities.
Prosecutors say Smith worked for Power Equipment & Engineering in Jones when she used the signature stamp of the company owner to forge nearly 200 company checks for her personal benefit.
Smith was also ordered to pay more than $1 million in restitution to the company and more than $200,000 to the Internal Revenue Service.
