FAYETTEVILLE, North Carolina — Authorities say a man struck by a train in Fayetteville over the weekend has died of his injuries.
Local media outlets report that a pedestrian was struck by a CSX train Saturday morning.
Fayetteville police say that 58-year-old Lawrence Everett was found unconscious on the tracks in downtown Fayetteville and later was pronounced dead at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.
Authorities say Everett was sitting on the tracks and that while the engineer sounded the train's horn and pulled the emergency brake, the train could not stop in time.
