Highway reopens in northern part of Phoenix area after head-on collision kills 1

PEORIA, Arizona — A highway in the northern part of the Phoenix area has reopened following an hours-long closure because of a head-on collision that killed one person.

The Arizona Department of Transportation says State Route 303 reopened late Friday morning. It had been closed south of West Happy Valley Parkway.

The state Department of Public Safety said a car crossed the center line and collided head-on with a pickup.

The car's driver was fatally injured, and two people in the pickup were injured.

This story has been corrected to reflect that the accident involved a head-on collision on a two-lane highway, not a cross-over accident on a freeway.
