NEW LONDON, Connecticut — The National Coast Guard Museum Association is honoring the first 100 donors who contributed toward the goal of building a museum in downtown New London.
The Day of New London (http://bit.ly/18UAvsG ) reports the association so far has raised more than $4 million from donors. The state of Connecticut also has pledged $20 million for engineering and construction work to build a pedestrian bridge leading to the proposed museum on the city's waterfront.
The museum dedicated to the history of the maritime service is expected to cost more than $80 million.
The first 100 donors contributed a total of $100,000. An event to honor them took place Thursday night at Union Station in New London.
