Monmouth picks up first win of the season in dominating 31-16 win over Wagner

NEW YORK — Cody Williams threw for 243 yards on 23 of 34 passing with a touchdown to help lead Monmouth to a 31-16 victory over Wagner on Saturday.

Darren Ambush caught seven passes for 117 yards and a touchdown for Monmouth (1-2), which racked up 468 yards of total offense. Zack Welch and Levon Chaney each finished with rushing scores and Chaney added a touchdown through the air, a 64-yard strike on a halfback pass to Ugo Ezemma on the second offensive play of the game.

A 41-yard Bryan Maley field goal put Wagner (0-2) on the board early in the second quarter and cut the Hawks lead to 7-3. That was as close as the Seahawks got, however as Monmouth reeled off 21 unanswered points to take a commanding lead.

Chris Andrews led Wagner (0-2) offensively with 112 yards passing and 55 yards rushing, but was intercepted twice.
