ANDERSON, South Carolina — A security guard has pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in the death of a woman who was shot as she drove away from an Anderson nightclub in 2013.

The Independent Mail of Anderson reports (http://bit.ly/1IGkLbP) 29-year-old Joey Ryan Johnson entered his plea on Monday. He was originally charged with voluntary manslaughter.

Judge Letita Verdin sentenced Johnson to 30 months in prison.

At the time, Johnson told investigators he shot in self-defense as 21-year-old India Lomax's truck veered toward him. He said he tried to stop the truck because her passenger had a gun.

Assistant Solicitor Rame Campbell said Johnson used excessive force, shooting 13 times. Campbell said the truck posed no danger to Johnson.

The coroner says Lomax, who had three children, died from being shot in the back.
