GREEN RIVER, Wyoming — A man is facing sentencing after a jury found him guilty of aggravated homicide by vehicle.
The Rock Springs Rocket-Miner reports (http://bit.ly/1FizTMM ) prosecutors argued Salt Lake City truck driver Edward Christopher Barrowes caused the April collision when he fell asleep while driving a tractor-trailer in southern Wyoming and fatally hit Aleksandr Kozak, who was working on a disabled truck in the emergency lane of Interstate 80.
The verdict was announced Wednesday.
Defense attorney Stan Cannon argued Barrowes failed to recognize the risk of driving while drowsy, and never made a conscious decision to ignore safety considerations.
Sweetwater County Attorney Daniel Erramouspe said the prosecution's argument was not that Barrowes intentionally hit Kozak, but that he failed to live up to standards set for professional drivers.
