Kate Peacock, competing as Miss Dunn, wins Miss North Carolina crown and Miss America trip

RALEIGH, North Carolina — The annual Miss North Carolina crown is passed to a new winner who is on her way to the Miss America pageant in September.

Multiple media organizations reported that Kate Peacock won the annual contest late Saturday. The sophomore at Meredith College in Raleigh was competing as Miss Dunn and won a $12,500 scholarship.

She was one of 37 North Carolina women competing in the 78th annual Miss North Carolina Scholarship Pageant held in Raleigh.

Peacock will vie for Miss America in September. The national pageant marks its 95th anniversary this September at Atlantic City's Boardwalk Hall.
