LOS ANGELES — Los Angeles police have shot and critically wounded a man they say refused to drop a knife.
The LAPD says officers answering a report of an armed man were called to a coffee shop in the Venice area at about 2 p.m. Monday.
Employees told reporters that the man, who appeared to be homeless, walked into the shop but then became unruly and pulled a knife.
Police tell City News Service the man was in critical condition following surgery.
His name hasn't been released.
The Los Angeles Times says Los Angeles police have shot more than 20 people so far this year. Ten have died.
