Coast Guard: 2 boaters rescued after being tossed into Long Island Sound after vessels sinks

SOUTHOLD, New York — The Coast Guard says two boaters had to be rescued from the Long Island Sound after their 40-foot vessel sank.

The boaters were pulled out of the water by a ferry crew that serves Plum Island.

It happened around 8 a.m. Monday, about two nautical miles off Old Saybrook, Connecticut.

Newsday (http://nwsdy.li/1M8Az6V ) says the boaters were clinging to the fender of the sinking boat when help arrived. They were not wearing lifejackets.

The boaters were not hurt.
