GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania — A coroner plans an inquest into the death of a western Pennsylvania man in an armed standoff at his western Pennsylvania home following a pharmacy robbery.

Westmoreland County Coroner Ken Bacha (BATCH'-ah) says he's hoping the hearing will determine whether 46-year-old Scott Murphy shot himself or was killed by police gunfire on July 18, 2013.

Police shot Murphy to end the standoff at his Latrobe home after he wounded a state trooper in the eye — a shot that could have killed the trooper had it not been for his helmet and face shield.

Bacha says Wednesday he'll hold the inquest the week of Feb. 16, but doesn't have a firm date.

Murphy's girlfriend, 27-year-old Julian Upholster, is scheduled for sentencing Feb. 19 on charges she stole two guns she gave Murphy to use that day.
