Second span of new bridge over Red River expected to open by Jan. 1

ALEXANDRIA, Louisiana — The second span of the Curtis-Coleman Memorial Bridge over the Red River is projected to open by the New Year.

The Daily Town Talk reports (http://townta.lk/1MiTID8 ) that the new span should be open by Jan. 1 but that some finishing touches could take until the end of February to complete.

This $82.9 million project is replacing the O.K. Allen Bridge, which closed to traffic in March. The old bridge is scheduled for demolition on Sept. 26.

The state Department of Transportation and Development says new bridge will have "a design life in excess of 50 years."
