LAKELAND, Florida — The city of Lakeland has paid a woman at the center of a sex scandal at the Lakeland Police Department $28,500 to withdraw a complaint she filed with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission alleging she was mistreated.
The Lakeland Ledger reports (http://bit.ly/1JyqYHc) the city admitted no wrongdoing in the 13-page settlement.
Sue Eberle was an LPD crime analyst whose trysts with various LPD officers led to a lengthy sexual-misconduct investigation of numerous officers that ended in September 2014, 18 months after inquiries started. She was fired in 2013 then filed complaints with the EEOC.
The police department, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and State Attorney's Office investigated the sex scandal, which revolved around Eberle, for possible criminal violations and found no criminal wrongdoing.
