PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island — Rhode Island is marking the 13th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terror attacks with moments of silence and other memorials.

Flags were lowered to half-staff on Thursday, and Gov. Lincoln Chafee called for a voluntary statewide moment of silence at 8:46 a.m. to remember those affected the by Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.

Remembrances were being held around the state, including at the Statehouse, and at the Providence Public Safety Complex.

The Naval War College in Newport held a ceremony to remember the six students and alumni killed in the attacks.
