FOUNTAIN, Colorado — A coal fire at a southern Colorado power plant prompted a brief evacuation of workers, but no injuries were reported.

The Colorado Springs Gazette reports ( ) the fire broke out Wednesday in a coal-handling facility at the Ray Nixon Power Plant in Fountain, just south of Colorado Springs.

The plant's main building wasn't affected and generators weren't shut down.

The plant is owned and operated by Colorado Springs Utilities.

The utility says a sprinkler system quickly extinguished the fire. Employees were evacuated for about 30 minutes. The utility says on it's website that all of them are safe.
