PITTSFIELD, Massachusetts — An 18-year-old Pittsfield man charged with fatally shooting a childhood friend and injuring a 17-year-old boy earlier this summer has been held without bail.
Thomas Lee Newman Jr. pleaded not guilty Monday in Berkshire Superior Court to murder and other charges on connection with the July 31 daylight shooting that took the life of 18-year-old Keenan Pellot Jr. and injured a 17-year-old youth.
Pellot was scheduled to begin his senior year at St. Joseph Central High School.
Newman was arrested two days after the shooting in upstate New York. His lawyer did not comment.
Prosecutors have not disclosed a possible motive, but Pellot's mother told The Berkshire Eagle (http://bit.ly/1PIDuDE ) that Newman was dating Pellot's sister and the shooting may have been the result of a "family issue."
