THIBODAUX, Louisiana — A Raceland man has been sentenced to serve life behind bars after being convicted of rape.

The Daily Comet (http://bit.ly/1ZXbzcP ) reports State District Judge Steve Miller sentenced 31-year-old Christopher Gaudet in Thibodaux on Friday.

Gaudet had been accused of forcing three children to have oral sex with him. A jury convicted Gaudet of aggravated rape on Nov. 6, 2015.

Miller also sentenced Gaudet to five years in prison on three counts of cruelty to juveniles. The sentences will run concurrently. Gaudet pleaded guilty to the cruelty charges Nov. 5.

Last week, Miller denied defense attorney Tracy Schwab's motions for post-verdict judgment of acquittal and a new trial. Schwab says he will turn the case over to the Louisiana Appellate Project to contest the sentence.
