Police: Bridgeport man shot several times while sitting on his front porch

BRIDGEPORT, Connecticut — Police say a Bridgeport man was hospitalized after he was shot multiple times on his porch.

It happened at around 10:53 p.m. Tuesday in the area of Stratford and Newfield Avenues.

Police say they arrived at the scene and found 39-year-old Abdul Nelson with gunshot wounds to his legs and hand. He told police he was sitting on his front porch when he heard gunshots. He says he is not sure where they came from.

Witnesses near the scene told police they heard three or four shots and saw a vehicle speeding away.

He was taken to Bridgeport Hospital with injuries not considered to be life threatening. The shooting remains under investigation.
