Texas woman formerly condemned for 1994 baby death pleads guilty to murder, gets 25 years

AUSTIN, Texas — A Texas baby sitter who narrowly avoided execution over an infant's 1994 death has pleaded guilty to murder and will not be retried.

Cathy Henderson was sentenced Friday to 25 years in prison in a plea deal in Austin. She gets credit for time served.

Henderson in 1995 was convicted of capital murder and condemned for the death of 3-month-old Brandon Baugh. She said she accidentally dropped the boy at her home in Pflugerville (FLOO'-gur-vihl).

Brandon's body was later found buried about 60 miles away. Henderson was arrested in Independence, Missouri.

Henderson was days from execution in 2007 when an appeals court halted her punishment. She won a new trial in 2012, based on updated scientific data on head trauma.

Henderson faced up to life in prison if convicted at retrial.
