WILTON MANORS, Florida — Police officers fatally shot a man who threatened to kill himself, his roommates and any police officers who showed up at his house near Fort Lauderdale.

The shooting happened Sunday afternoon in Wilton Manors.

The Broward Sheriff's Office has taken over the investigation and the two Wilton Manors police officers have been placed on administrative leave.

Authorities say the man's roommates notified police after he threatened him. When the man went outside the house, the roommates locked the door. They told dispatchers he was trying to get back in and that he had started firing his gun.

Officers ordered him to drop the gun. He refused and was shot. He died a short time later at a hospital.

Police haven't released the names of the dead man or officers.
