BLACK MOUNTAIN, North Carolina — Firefighters are making progress in containing a wildfire in the mountains of western North Carolina.

Bill Swartley with the North Carolina Forest Service told local media outlets that the fire east of Asheville was about 84 percent contained Thursday afternoon.

Swartley said higher humidity on Thursday helped in the effort.

The fire has burned about 750 acres since it was reported Tuesday afternoon. One mobile home was destroyed earlier and five other homes were damaged.

One firefighter suffered minor injuries earlier this week.

About 80 firefighters were working on the blaze Thursday near the Buncombe-McDowell county line.

Officials expect to be on the scene for several more days.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
