Man receives 90 years to life in prison stemming from 2009 fatal shooting at after-hours bar

SCHENECTADY, New York — A 37-year-old man has been sentenced to serve 90 years to life in prison after he was convicted of shooting an upstate New York man in the back of the head at an illegal after-hours bar.

A jury in June convicted Sylvester Young of killing Jumez Lee at the former Top Toe Inn in Schenectady on Jan. 25, 2009. He was also convicted on related charges.

The Daily Gazette of Schenectady reports (http://bit.ly/1SyTs4M ) Young was sentenced on Monday.

Prosecutors had asked for 100 years to life, citing the nature of the crime and Young's criminal history. They said Young blamed Lee for a 2005 Schenectady shooting and executed him to settle a score.

Young has maintained his innocence and says witnesses altered their stories. He is expected to appeal.
