PHILADELPHIA — A teenage girl who pleaded guilty to assaulting a Temple University student with a brick has been sentenced to 2½ to 6 years in state prison.

The Philadelphia Daily News reports (http://bit.ly/1ziJQ8C) a judge told the 16-year-old Wednesday that her hideous conduct last March had damaged the city's psyche.

The girl pleaded guilty in October to aggravated assault, conspiracy and possession of an instrument of crime in the attack.

The victim suffered a broken jaw, palate and teeth and required emergency surgery.

The teen apologized and told the court that she lost self-control and let anger control her.

The cases of two co-defendants are being tried in Family Court since they weren't accused of using weapons.

Authorities said the three assaulted two other students before that attack.
