RIVERTON, Wyoming — A former Riverton police officer has pleaded not guilty to a felony charge of aggravated assault.

The Riverton Ranger reports ( ) that 42-year-old Frisco Saunders entered the plea Tuesday in Lander District Court.

Judge Marvin L. Tyler set trial for Nov. 3.

Prosecutors say the charge against Saunders stems from a June 2 incident in which he was exchanging custody of a child with his ex-wife, Tina Saunders.

According to a police statement, Tina Saunders reported her ex-husband argued with her, threatened to kill her, and then tried to hit her with his Chevrolet Suburban as she walked away. She told police the vehicle's side-view mirror struck her arm.

Frisco Saunders had served in the Riverton Police Department until early 2009.
