TAMPA, Florida — Tampa police say surveillance video is raising doubts about whether a child died after falling from a vehicle.
Police spokeswoman Laura McElroy said late Monday that based on footage from two surveillance cameras, detectives are questioning whether the 4-year-old rolled out of a sport utility vehicle as a witness described.
McElroy says now detectives are questioning whether the boy instead wandered into the street and was the victim of a hit-and-run driver. Investigators have been searching for a dark green or black Ford Expedition since Sunday night.
The witness who called 911 reported seeing the child fall from the vehicle in front of the apartment complex where the boy lived. Police say that shortly after the incident, the boy's 17-year-old brother approached officers and said he couldn't find the child.
