FOUKE, Arkansas — Officials say a community correction center inmate ran away from a work crew he was part of near Fouke in southwestern Arkansas.

Arkansas Community Correction spokeswoman Dina Tyler says 36-year-old Jeremy Pifer ran away Thursday from the crew that was picking up trash along U.S. 71 and disappeared into a wooded area.

Tyler says Pifer was being held for a parole violation after being convicted in 2010 in Benton County of residential burglary. He is described as white, about 5 feet 8 inches tall and about 160 pounds.

Tyler says prison officials, Arkansas State Police and Miller County authorities are searching for Pifer.
