MOSS POINT, Mississippi — Sheriff's deputies say a single-engine plane had to make an emergency landing on Highway 63 in north Jackson County.
Capt. Curtis Spiers with the Jackson County Sheriff's Office tells The Sun Herald (http://bit.ly/1GSuo8g) deputies happened to be in the area when they noticed a plane flying low to the ground, then land on the highway about 5:30 p.m. Sunday.
He says the plane was registered to the pilot from Grand Bay, Alabama, who was the only occupant.
Spiers said the pilot told officials the engine lost power, forcing him to make an emergency landing.
The plane was flying from the St. Elmo area in Mobile County.
Spiers says the plane has been moved to a safe location, Spiers said, and an investigator with the Federal Aviation Administration is set to arrive Monday.
