MADISON, Wisconsin — Attorney general hopeful Jon Richards wants to create a new position with the state Justice Department to protect senior citizens.
Richards announced Wednesday his so-called senior citizen advocate would work with local prosecutors to protect seniors from fraud and abuse. The advocate also would work with lawmakers to draft legislation to protect seniors. He also says he wants to expand DOJ's Medicaid fraud and elder abuse unit.
Richards, a state representative from Milwaukee, is vying with Dane County District Attorney Ismael Ozanne and Jefferson County District Attorney Susan Happ for the Democratic nomination for attorney general.
They'll square off in an Aug. 12 primary. The winner will face Waukesha County District Attorney Brad Schimel, the only Republican in the race.
