Greening of Detroit hosts bus tour of latest projects, prepares for 'Peace Fence Ceremony'

DETROIT — A nonprofit that supports urban reforestation efforts is hosting an annual bus tour and preparing for an event to promote peace.

Thursday night's tour offers a glimpse at The Greening of Detroit's newest projects and offers updates for its members and supporters. It begins at the Detroit Market Garden at Eastern Market. There will be refreshments and a food demonstration at Lafayette Greens Garden.

On Friday, the "Peace Fence Ceremony" takes place at the Detroit Market Garden. The event is on the anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks and seeks to celebrate cultural diversity and the sustainable growth of healthy urban communities.

During the 5:30 p.m. ceremony, participants will gather and recite the phrase "may peace prevail on Earth" in any language they wish.
