Maine standoff ends with surrender of a man charged with domestic violence assault

POLAND, Maine — Police say a standoff in the town of Poland, Maine, ended peacefully with the surrender of a man who was charged with domestic violence assault.

The Sun Journal (http://bit.ly/1l9MBo5) reported that Michael Winslow surrendered shortly before 3:30 p.m. Thursday.

Androscoggin County Sheriff Eric Samson said all but one person safely left the house when officers first arrived late Thursday morning. He said the incident began with a 911 call by Winslow's wife.

The Maine State Police tactical team joined deputies, game wardens and Mechanic Falls police at the scene.
