Arizona's voter registration numbers rise by more than 47,000 since last report in July

PHOENIX — Arizona's voter registration numbers have grown by more than 47,000 since the last report in July.

The Secretary of State's Office announced Wednesday that the state now has more than 3.29 million registered voters.

Secretary of State Michele Reagan says voter registration is expected to continue to climb as the 2016 presidential election year approaches.

Her office says 34 percent of current registered voters in Arizona are Republicans, 28 percent are Democrats and 37 percent are independents who have not designated a party preference.

Those independents can't vote in the March 22 presidential preference election unless they re-register and choose a political party affiliation at least a month before Election Day.

Libertarians, Green and Americans Elect party members make up about one percent of the state's total registration.
