ELIZABETH, New Jersey — A man accused of fatally stabbing another resident at a northern New Jersey rooming home has been indicted on a murder count.

Union County prosecutors say 34-year-old Alexander Kerton is charged in the death of 67-year-old John Forte, who was found dead at the rooming home in Elizabeth last November. A motive for the stabbing has not been disclosed.

The indictment was recently handed up by a county grand jury.

Kerton also faces an aggravated assault charge stemming from another stabbing at the same rooming home, which occurred during the same week that Forte was killed. But the victim in that incident, a 56-year-old man, survived the attack.

A telephone number for Kerton could not be located Sunday. It was not known is he has retained an attorney.
