BILLINGS, Montana — Yellowstone County authorities have arrested a 73-year-old man after a shooting left one person dead near Ballantine, about 20 miles northeast of Billings.

Sheriff Mike Linder said in a statement Tuesday that James D. Sindelar of Ballantine is being charged with negligent homicide. Sindelar is being held at the county detention center.

Monday night's shooting happened at a house on Thunderstick Road near Interstate 94.

Linder says officers and emergency medical personnel found one person inside the house with an apparent gunshot wound. The person died at the home.

Linder declined to release the name of the victim until relatives are notified.

Linder says the investigation into the shooting is continuing.
