PHOENIX — Flu activity is now officially considered widespread in Arizona.

That's according to state Health Services Director Will Humble, who said Friday that Arizona has joined the ranks of dozens of other states with that level of flu activity.

Humble says the state has had more than 2,300 cases reported so far — more than double the number last year at this time.

Humble also says the current flu season could be difficult, particularly because the dominant strain isn't a perfect match for the current vaccine.

However, he says vaccines remain the best protection against flu even if they aren't a perfect match.
