FRANKFORT, Kentucky — A project to improve air quality in Oldham County is being backed by a new round of funding for a park and ride initiative.
Gov. Steve Beshear's office says the $142,435 in Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality funding will continue the project. The initiative was awarded nearly $1 million in funding in 2010 for construction of a facility for the park and ride project.
When completed, the facility will house a 126-car lot and include a shelter, bike lockers and walkways.
An access road will be built to allow commuter buses to enter and exit the property near Exit 14 of Interstate 71.
State officials say nearly two-thirds of Oldham County's workforce commutes to Metro Louisville daily.
A direct bus route from Oldham County to Metro Louisville was started in 2005.
