Ascension Parish deputies book Geismar man in bludgeoning death of his estranged wife

DUTCHTOWN, Louisiana — Ascension Parish deputies say a 38-year-old Geismar man ordered to stay away from his wife in late June broke into her home Sunday night and bludgeoned her to death with a baseball bat.

Deputies say David L. Johnson Sr. also broke the arm of her 18-year-old son when he tried to defend his mother.

Sheriff Jeff Wiley said Johnson broke through a glass door and found a bat in the Dutchtown home of his estranged wife, 45-year-old Monica Butler Johnson.

Wiley said her body was found in the backyard about 11 p.m. Sunday.

David Johnson was arrested early Monday morning and booked with first-degree murder.

Online jail records did not list an attorney for Johnson.
