NEWARK, New Jersey — A shuttle bus driver who admitted leaving the scene of a fatal hit-and-run accident in a parking lot at Newark Liberty International Airport has received a 364-day county jail sentence.

Essex County prosecutors say 48-year-old Fidel Ortez of West New York will also have to serve three years of probation under the sentence imposed Tuesday. He had pleaded guilty in July to leaving the scene of the accident in which 61-year-old Jeffrey Zeisler of Howell was killed.

Investigators say Zeisler was fatally struck in November 2012, after arriving at the airport to catch a red-eye flight to attend training for a new job.

Prosecutors say Ortez drove over Zeisler and stopped to check the victim's pulse before leaving. He told a dispatcher a man was lying in the parking lot.
