SMETHPORT, Pennsylvania — State police say a man is dead after his car smashed into a tree along a rural highway in northwestern Pennsylvania.

Troopers from the Kane barracks say the dead man is 48-yearold Kevin Causer, who lived in Kane.

He was pronounced dead at the scene after his car crashed about 6:45 a.m. Sunday on U.S. Route 6 in Hamlin Township. That's about 130 miles northeast of Pittsburgh.

Police say the car spun out before the rear of the vehicle hit the tree. Police didn't immediately say what caused the crash.

Causer worked as an employee of the streets department in nearby Mount Jewett.
